Birrong Suri Alpacas
SURI ALPACA FARM TOURS
The suri is a rare member of the alpaca family highly prized for its exquisite fleece, used to produce some of the most luxurious yarns and fabrics in the world. Once you feel the silken locks and see the astonishing lustre of a suri you will understand why the Incas called suri the “Fibre of the Gods”.
For a unique rural experience, visit this award-winning herd of pure white suri on a 100-acre farm nestled in a hidden valley at Canyonleigh, just 40 minutes from Bowral. Birrong Suri Alpacas offers personalised tours where visitors can:
• Learn all about suri alpacas.
• Enjoy a walk around our farm in its beautiful secluded valley.
• Get up close to plenty of suris—usually including cria (baby alpacas).
• Purchase unique yarns and garments made from our suri fibre.
As an alternative, if your itinerary does not allow for a farm visit, we can bring suri alpacas to selected venues in the Southern Highlands. Depending on the interests of your group this can incorporate:
• A short presentation on suri alpacas.
• A display of suri fleeces and products, including items for sale.
• Children’s activities, including alpaca handling, art and craft, and “name the cria” competition.
